Foodland, Bang Na

This is the best grocery store in Bang Na and Samut Prakarn as of the end of 2009. It's in an old building in an old suburb, but don't judge a book by its cover because when you walk inside, everything changes.

Foodland is a greater Bangkok metro region chain of grocery stores that does a good job of standardizing so that all its outlets are nearly the same.

While not as fancy as some of the grocery stores in the city center with their delicatessens, huge fresh fruit areas, and flash, this suburban branch of Foodland does maintain its standard of providing quality meats and carrying practically everything on its shelves that you will find in a city center Foodland.

The salad bar in this Foodland is one of the best I've ever found in Bangkok, in terms of variety and freshness, though it is compact and not flashy.

Like other Foodlands, it has the "Took Lae Dee" ("cheap but good") restaurant in the front which is truly cheap but tasty!

It also has a small bakery, a pharmacy, and a small bookstore (off the right edge of one photo) which is good for getting the daily newspaper (English and Thai) and maybe a few other things but is mainly Thai language material.

As there are a lot of expats in this region, you'll always see some here, but many high class Thais in this region also prefer Foodland.
